The fireworks are on! This year to bring the community together while staying apart, the 18th annual Memorial Day Fireworks display will proceed in a socially distant format on Memorial Day. Sponsored by the Southern Highlands Community Association in partnership with the Southern Highlands Builders Co-Op, the fireworks will originate and be displayed form the hilltop at Olympia Sports Park. While the park will be closed, the height of the fireworks has been increased this year for our residents to see and enjoy while at home.
A perennial favorite among residents, the annual Southern Highlands Memorial Day Celebration is typically a community-focused, family day filled with field games, raffles, food, drinks, water slides, live music, face-painting, a fireworks extravaganza, and more. Designed to not only provide a fun-filled day of community celebration, the event also honors and supports the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. Historically, funds collected through raffle ticket, food, and beverage sales went directly to support Nellis and Creech Air Force Base’s Operation Warm Heart – a private, non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to local airmen and their families.
While the in-person festival has been cancelled in accordance with current safety directives, the need for the services and programs that Operation Warm Heart provides to the men and women of Creech and Nellis is greater than ever. Therefore, we are asking that you consider donating through this Go Fund Me page, so that charitable funds can still be distributed.
